A Virtual Cup of Coffee with Robert Janes '20

A Virtual Cup of Coffee with Robert Janes '20

You can only have one: Rose’s caramel corn, an ice cream cone from Jersey Junction, or a Yesterdog. Which do you choose?
Ice Cream from Jersey Junction.

What are your plans after graduation?
I'm going to be going to college. I've yet to make a decision as to where I will be attending, but I need to pretty soon!

What have you learned in East that will enable you to be successful?
I learned how to be confident in my knowledge, and that it is ok to not know everything, but sometimes giving it your best guess is worth it.

What were you like in school?
I was talkative but respectful towards my teachers. School was always a place where I got to see all my friends on a daily basis, but my number one priority was always academics.

Did you have a favorite teacher or class?
My favorite teacher was Mr. VandenBrink. I was able to interact with him during all 4 years of high school because I was involved in Model UN, and he definitely was the teacher that knew me best in both a personal sense and an academic sense. My favorite class was by far We the People. The impact it had on me was huge and it played a role in shaping my future in terms of what I want to study. The relationships gained from that class will probably last a lifetime, as I made my closest friends through that class.

If you had to choose one moment in one location to serve as the signature moment of your East school experience, what would it be?
Competing at We the People nationals in Washington D.C

What do you know now that you wish you’d known when you were younger?
History is really cool and that I should spend more time studying it.

Who from East do you think you’ll stay in touch with in the future?
I hope to stay in touch with my close friends and my Weeple Unit.

What advice do you have for young East kids?
Study hard, but remember to go out and have fun once in a while. You only get to do the whole high school thing once.

Bonus question: What are you glad we didn’t ask you about?
What my biggest regret of my time at EGR was or something like that.
