A Virtual Cup of Coffee with Claire Dantuma '20

You can only have one: Rose’s caramel corn, an ice cream cone from Jersey Junction, or a Yesterdog. Which do you choose?
Yesterdog.

What are your plans after graduation?
I will be attending WMU.

What have you learned in East that will enable you to be successful?
To work hard but still leave time to enjoy life and everything outside of work/school.

What were you like in school?
I'd say I was pretty outgoing and chatty but I still maintained pretty good grades and by senior year I loved school because of the social aspect of it.

Did you have a favorite teacher or class?
In elementary school, my favorite teacher was Mrs. Gould. In high school I loved so many of my teachers it's hard to just choose one but some would be Mr. VandenBrink, Ms. Tombre, Mr. VanderBee, and so many more.

If you had to choose one moment in one location to serve as the signature moment of your East school experience, what would it be?
All of the Friday nights I spent watching the football team. I looked forward to them every year and loved watching the games and supporting the team.

What do you know now that you wish you’d known when you were younger?
I wish I could've understood how fast your school years go by because it seems like just yesterday I was starting young fives and now it's all over and I wish I could've just slowed down time, enjoyed it more, and been more involved.

Who from East do you think you’ll stay in touch with in the future?
I hope to stay in touch with all of my close friends I have now, but if not all of them then maybe my friend Kiki who I've been best friends with since she moved here in 1st grade.

What advice do you have for young East kids?
Go all in and enjoy it while it lasts, because it goes by way faster than you could ever imagine and you shouldn't sweat it over the little things because it really won't matter in the long run. Try every sport, join any club, and be involved. Your high school years especially because they go by in the blink of an eye and you never know what could happen, such as not knowing it but your last day being in the middle of March.

Bonus question: What are you glad we didn’t ask you about?
Pictures of myself from middle school. Those are rough.
