A Virtual Cup of Coffee with Luke Socie '20

You can only have one: Rose’s caramel corn, an ice cream cone from Jersey Junction, or a Yesterdog. Which do you choose?
Jersey ice cream.

What are your plans after graduation?
I hope to get a job in the summer if the pandemic dies down. Always nice to have a little extra money for college.

What have you learned in East that will enable you to be successful?
I learned how to write eloquently and clearly, which is something I’m sure I will use in the future. I also learned that communication is key.

What were you like in school?
While I did not branch out from people in my immediate friend group, or tried to make friends with people outside the drama dept., I think I had the ability to make friends with nearly anyone.

Did you have a favorite teacher or class?
Mr Vandenbrink was my favorite teacher of my high school career. He is just so passionate about what he teaches, and it made me excited to learn.

What do you know now that you wish you’d known when you were younger?
I would tell my younger self that everyone is too busy worrying about other people judging them to judge you.

Who from East do you think you’ll stay in touch with in the future?
I have plenty of close friends that I hope to stay in touch with.

What advice do you have for young East kids?
Find a niche. Don’t feel forced or pigeonholed into doing anything.

Bonus question: What are you glad we didn’t ask you about?
