A Virtual Cup of Coffee with Elzie Honicutt '20

You can only have one: Rose’s caramel corn, an ice cream cone from Jersey Junction, or a Yesterdog. Which do you choose?
I would eat a Yesterdog for sure. I could live with never seeing Jersey Junction if I could still eat a Yesterdog every now and then.

What are your plans after graduation?
I will be attending Michigan State University and Majoring in Chemical Engineering

What have you learned in East that will enable you to be successful?
That patience and persistence go a long ways in all kinds of situations.

What were you like in school?
I was always working on something. I was always doing homework, hanging out with friends and doing sports. I kept busy and around my friends most of the time.

Did you have a favorite teacher or class?
I liked any class where I could make jokes and laugh but still learn the material.

If you had to choose one moment in one location to serve as the signature moment of your East school experience, what would it be?
Laughing at a joke one of my friends made in Mr. Stabile’s class. We both had to explain memes to the class and explain what the LEGO Bionicle toys are. Those running jokes will stand the test of time.

What do you know now that you wish you’d known when you were younger?
If people don’t accept you for who you are, you’re around the wrong people.

Who from East do you think you’ll stay in touch with in the future?
My close friends and most people who show up on my social media feed.

What advice do you have for young East kids?
Keep an open mind.

Bonus question: What are you glad we didn’t ask you about?
What would your freshman self think of you now?
