Don't Call It a Synthesizer. Electric Piano Has Been Invaluable.

If you’re a person of a certain age and you hear the word “synthesizer,” it probably calls to mind bands like Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, and Duran Duran. That video for “Take On Me” anyone?

Today’s synthesizers, though, are called electric pianos, and they’ve become invaluable tools in music rooms.

“The electric piano we purchased with funds from the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation mini grant has been used at every marching band performance and concert this year,” says band teacher Jake Castillo. “We use it every day in rehearsals as well. This instrument was most recently featured at the world premier of ‘Look to the East,’ which was written by EGR Assistant Band Director Kayla Cordell.”
