Counting Down the Top 40 Foundation Grants of All Time #14: Elementary Ukuleles and High School Ukulele Club

A ukulele is just a little thing that gets its name from another little thing, a jumping flea.

The first grant the Foundation funded for ukuleles was a little thing, too. Back in 2015, we funded a grant to purchase a set of ukuleles for 5th graders.

Kids loved them. They loved them so much, in fact, that when some of those kids became high school students, they applied for a grant to start a High School Ukulele Club.

It was just a little thing. Or was it? “These ukuleles will benefit EGRHS students by allowing people who don’t have a ukulele to participate in this club,” says Jemma Doublestein, who applied for the grant along with Olivia Miller. “The main purpose of our club is to create joy and growth through learning about and making music and this grant will help us do that!”

Creating joy. That’s not a little thing at all.

Thank you, Foundation donors, for making this possible. You can help support our mission of investing in educational enhancements for all our students on our Donate page.
