The Friends of the EGR branch of the Kent District Library have partnered with the Foundation since 2019
to organize author visits to the EGRPS elementary schools. This gives students the opportunity to meet and interact with talented authors and illustrators and to be inspired by their books, but also by what and how they write and illustrate their stories.
Last fall, as part of the Foundation's record-setting 40th anniversary year, children's book author and illustrator Jason Chin shared his creative process with students at Breton Downs, Lakeside, and Wealthy elementary schools. After his visit, Chin had the kids talking about him for weeks following. A few were amazed that he was so artistic in drawing as well as writing books they loved.
