Jake Castillo, band teacher and conductor at EGR High School, requested $27,628 in funding for new percussion equipment for his students as part of the Foundation's record-setting 40th anniversary year. He wanted to ensure that the number of instruments available allowed all students to practice and play vs having to take turns. The new equipment is an upgrade for older equipment that is 20-30 years old but can still be used at the middle school where there is also an instrument shortage.
Band students are using the new equipment in a variety of experiences: Jazz, Classical, Concert, Percussion Ensemble, Marching Band, and Solo Repertoire.
Mr. Castillo shared, "We are enjoying the new equipment. No student has to sit out during our rehearsals or performances. We also were able to utilize our new instruments during the band festival, which helped visiting performing schools to avoid bringing their equipment for our event."
