Camp Miniwanca

Sometimes, when we write these grant highlights, we just ask the person who applied for the grant to answer one simple question: How will students benefit from this grant?

That's what we did this time. We asked Breton Downs Elementary teacher Christine Gast that question. And here is her answer: "Camp Miniwanca has been a long standing tradition for our fifth graders at Breton Downs. In September, we head to the forest, lakes, and sand dunes of Camp Miniwanca where students spend time in challenging activities and guided discussions that develop leadership skills. These activities include working together during low and high ropes, canoeing, habitat building, hiking, and guided discussions. At camp students practice the motto, "My own self, at my very best, all of the time," which is incorporated in all aspects of our school day."
