First, what’s FIRST? It’s an acronym for “For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology.” It was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen (yes, the Segway guy) to inspire youth to get involved in science and technology.

Second, FIRST joined with Lego (yes, the plastic block company) to create FIRST Lego League, “a program that guides youth through STEM learning and exploration at an early age. From Discover, to Explore, and then to Challenge, students will understand the basics of STEM and apply their skills in an exciting competition while building habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way.”

Third, the Foundation started funding EGRPS’ FIRST Lego League more than 15 years ago.

Last, but certainly not least, FIRST Lego League provides elementary school students with a fun introduction to the program many of them will continue at East Grand Rapids Middle School and on the East Grand Rapids High School Robotics team.

Thank you, Foundation donors, for making this possible. You can help support our mission of investing in educational enhancements for all our students on our Donate page.
