Back in the spring of 2015, the Foundation approved 16 grants totaling $45,389.68. About two thirds of that total–$30,062–funded two grants to start the International Baccalaureate program at the high school.

In January, 2016, East Grand Rapids High School became one of the first public high schools in Michigan to become an authorized International Baccalaureate World School. Since then, hundreds of students have earned certificates for taking IB classes and more than 100 have completed the IB Diploma Programme.

IB classes “develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed,” according to the organization. “The IB gives students distinct advantages by building their critical thinking skills, nurturing their curiosity and their ability to solve complex problems.” Offering the IB program also helps differentiate East Grand Rapids Public Schools from neighboring districts.

Thank you, Foundation donors, for making this possible! You can help support our mission of investing in educational enhancements for all our students on our donate page.
