“This is the best resource ever. I love it,” Erin Huffer, school social worker, said with a big smile on her face as she was handed a big check for Everyday Speech subscriptions.
Everyday Speech is an online platform that teachers and social workers use to help students problem-solve social situations, communicate better, make responsible decisions, and recognize their emotions. Students might watch a video where they see social skills modeled for them. Then they would do some sort of interactive practice, through a game or role play, and finally have opportunities to apply what they’re learning in real situations. The repeated modeling and practice helps students develop lasting skills that are critical to success both in and out of the classroom.
“You can use it for every grade level,” Huffer shared. “It’s so engaging and easy to use.”
Everyday Speech can be used in one-to-one and small group settings or for a whole class lesson. The Foundation is funding a grant to provide eight subscriptions that will be used in every building in the district, including Woodcliff Early Childhood Center.
Thank you to Foundation donors for making this available to our staff and students!
