This school year, thanks to a grant from the Foundation, first, third, and fifth grade students were able to attend the Grand Rapids Symphony.
Students learned about the different instrument families and listened to the music representing a variety of languages and styles, but the best part was, they were able to move along with the music! This will help them continue to grow their musical abilities as they move on to Middle School where they will choose either orchestra, band, or choir. Supporting the elementary school music program allows for a deeper understanding of instruments, music concepts, and performance etiquette while fostering a love for music. They could connect classroom learning to a real world experience.
"This grant gives our students a truly unforgettable opportunity to experience live music in a way that simply can’t be replicated in the classroom," says music teacher Haley Kline. "First, third, and fifth graders attend age-specific concerts with the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, where they don’t just listen—they engage, move, think, and even perform alongside professional musicians. These field trips bring our curriculum to life, spark curiosity, and inspire a lifelong appreciation for music and the arts."
Thank you, Foundation donors, for providing this opportunity to our students!
