Who knew “Pete the Cat” was so popular?
Well, you probably did. You might even know that there have been 87 Pete the Cat books published. Or that the books inspired a television series created by the same person who created “Phineas and Ferb.” Or that in the 2017 animated special, “Pete the Cat: A Groovy New Year,” Pete’s parents were voiced by Elvis Costello and Diana Krall
Pete’s popularity created a twist in music teacher Haley Kline’s request for a mini-grant to fund tickets to the “Pete the Cat” show at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre. The show was originally scheduled for the fall, but so many schools and families requested tickets that it was sold out. Fortunately, Civic added additional Pete the Cat shows in the spring to accommodate the fictitious feline’s faithful fans.
The additional show, it turns out, is this week, and thanks to Haley Kline, a little patience, and donors to the Foundation, there will be some very happy Breton Downs kindergarten students at the show. They'll have a special connection to the cast, too, as Pete the Cat will be played by an East student.
