For more than 50 years, East Grand Rapids High School students have been traveling to the annual Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario.
It only makes sense. Stratford puts on an unparalleled lineup of shows and it’s only a few hours away by bus. EGRHS students not only attend plays, but also participate in workshops where they get to work with actual professional actors and directors. It’s an experience that really can’t be topped, and it’s relatively close to home.
Students are responsible for transportation, meals, and lodging, but a grant from the Foundation pays for their tickets to performances and workshops.
“I hope this trip continues on an annual basis,” says EGRHS Drama Director Jesse Aukeman. “This grant helped expose EGRHS students to world-class theatre, expanding our students' understanding of what is possible for artists to achieve!”
