Grant Highlight: Sensory Responsive Classrooms

EGRSF board members and principal with big check

Thanks to a grant request for the district's three elementary school principals, the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation helped fund Sensory Responsive Classrooms at Breton Downs, Lakeside, and Wealthy.

Equipment provided through the grant included adaptive seating, noise-canceling headphones, fidgets, sand timers, and more.

As one of the principals who was able to see first hand, Lakeside principal Jennafer Slanger, said, “Elementary students have a wide range of learning and sensory needs, and access to developmentally appropriate tools helps them remain focused, calm, and engaged. We are grateful for this grant, which allows us to enhance our classrooms with additional supports so that every student feels included, supported, and able to succeed.”
