Imagine a weekly periodical designed specifically for elementary students that connects today’s fast-moving world with the literacy skills they are developing each day. Scholastic News does just that. Each issue features engaging content in science, history, and current events, helping students stay informed while building curiosity and understanding.
Through topics ranging from new discoveries to important moments in history and current events, students are encouraged to think critically. Features like debates and “sticky situations” provide opportunities for discussion, perspective-taking, and deeper learning.
After rave reviews from both staff and students, our elementary principals, Katie McIntosh, Jennafer Slanger, and Stephanie Olson, jumped at the opportunity to apply once again for a grant to keep Scholastic News coming to our elementary classrooms.
A big thank you to the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation for their continued support in helping our students grow into informed, curious, and engaged learners!
