EGR STEAM Night is a new event designed to highlight student projects across grade
levels, with a focus on science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Students,
especially those in grades 6-12 presented their work through interactive displays for the
community to explore and learn from.
Local scientists, STEAM professionals, and university faculty also hosted hands-on
booths, demonstrations, and information sessions. Younger students were encouraged
to attend, helping to build excitement and awareness around our STEAM curriculum.
“I would say that the project exceeded my goals and expectations. This was the first
year running the event, and we had over 300 participants. I was hoping for 100,” said
STEAM night co-leader Tom Fox. “Furthermore, the energy was so positive. We were
able to draw attention to many amazing students across grade levels and disciplines
who are not always given the opportunity for this kind of community spotlight.”
The event showcased Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math in one
celebratory and student-centered evening. The event also built connections with
businesses in our city and helped strengthen relationships among teachers across
grade levels and disciplines.
Throughout the night, older students had the opportunity to practice their presentation
and mentoring skills, while younger students were able to learn about the many
amazing opportunities our schools offer, especially across our STEAM disciplines.
“Experiences like these help students feel valued, connected, and supported, which are
critical elements of a strong learning environment,” commented co-leader, Jan Huff. “I
am also deeply grateful for the support of our sponsors, especially the Foundation.”
