Grant Highlight: Orchestra and Choir Trip to Disney World and Universal

high school student orchestra on stage

A school trip to Orlando can have as many ups and downs as Space Mountain.

The ups?

“Our whole orchestra is going to Disney World!”

“Our choir gets to sing at Universal Studios!”

The downs?

“It costs $2,000.”

“What do you mean? Everyone else is going.”

Thanks to the Foundation, some families will be able to avoid some of those highs and lows for the high school choir and orchestra trip to Orlando this fall. Less Tower of Terror, and more Living with the Land.

For years, EGRHS band, orchestra, and choir students have had once in a lifetime opportunities to perform and learn in workshops at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. Not every student could afford to go, though.

That’s where the Foundation’s Gerken Fund and a classroom enhancement grant are stepping in this year. The financial support the Foundation is providing, thanks to our donors, means every student who wants to go can go and be part of this unique experience. Students are also doing some fundraising on their own to fill in the gaps.

Altogether, it’s a big expense, but that’s one of the Foundation’s goals: making sure more students have access to everything our district has to offer.

It’s a small world, after all.
